This fast begins on Monday, the day after the Feast of Pentecost.  This fast varies in length because of the changing date of Easter, but ends on the fixed date of the Feast of the Martyrdom of Saint Peter and Saint Paul on the 5^th of Epip (July 12).

The purpose of this fast is to fill us with fervor and zeal for preaching the word of God just as the Apostles had done after they received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
